How do you Workout?
"Working Out" can mean different things to different people. There are many ways someone can workout. At Bay you workout in our PE class, as well as when you are out at recess. When someone says they are going to workout what they really mean to say is that they are going to do some sort of exercise- they are going to be getting their body moving in a specific way.
Sometimes a workout can require equipment, and sometimes you won't need any at all. Some workouts you can do at home and some you need to show up to a gym. Some workouts last a long time and others are very short but intense. One type of workout will focus on strengthening the muscles in your body, and another type of workout will target strengthening your heart. And sometimes a workout can involve stretching your muscles. It all depends on what you want to accomplish when you exercise.
Below I have listed some of the many ways a person can choose to workout.

Home Gyms/Gym Equipment - These are all in one home gyms in the pictures. You can a many different exercises on a machine like this- and you can work out your entire body. There are many different pulleys at are used in these machines and you lift the black stack of weights you see in the first gym on the left. When you go to a gym like 24 Hour Fitness they have many of the same machines set up individually all over the gym floor.

Calisthenics: Calisthenics are exercises that do not require any equipment, and you are only lifting or supporting your own body weight when you are doing them. Push-Ups, Dips, Crunches, Planks, and Burpies are all considered calisthenics. Many people forget just how great of a workout you can get doing basic calisthenics
Yoga & Pilates: Both yoga and pilates help someone strengthen their muscles through the different body positions that are held. The "core" or abdominals are an area which is especially targeted in both yoga and pilates. Other benefits also include flexibility and posture improvements. Not only are yoga and pilates good for the body, they can also bring a person a sense or relaxation as well.
Cardio & Strength Workouts
Kettlebell Workouts: Swinging a kettlebell is a quick but amazing way to get a strength and cardio workout all in one.

Tabata Workout: Tabata is a style of workout that is high intensity (very difficult) and has you doing a variety of cardio & muscle strengthening exercises. Tabata is done in "intervals" which means every 20 seconds you will switch up what exercise you are doing. Usually you get 10 seconds of rest between exercises. Tabata workouts are shorter in length (4 mins) but are very difficult. Prepare to sweat! Tabata workouts are named after Dr. Tabata who came up with this popular workout.

HIIT Workouts: HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. "High Intensity" means that it is very challenging, and "interval" means that you will be doing exercises for specific amounts of time before starting another one. People enjoy HIIT workouts because they don't last for a very long time...but that doesn't mean they are easy! HIIT workouts have "high intensity" exercises and then follow it up with "low intensity" exercises where you can recover.
